On The Trail Part 2: Identify the Thief!

Part 2:

Now that you have partial descriptions of the thief you must think how you are going to catch him.

Perhaps he has a criminal record already. Is there anyone in the prisoners' datafile who matches the descriptions of the person you are looking for?

In the Victorian Crime and Punishment website, click on the tab at the top of the screen marked "Prisoners". Choose the option: Advanced Search (don't worry, it's easy to use).

A form will appear. Fill in the information on the form which you think fits the most definite parts of the descriptions, then click the "Search" button at the bottom.

(Some of the information in PC Wilson's notebook can't go in the form, but might come in useful later.)

If a lot of names come up, repeat the search by entering more (or different) information, and do so until you have narrowed the names down to not too many.

Keep a note of the search terms you use and the numbers of records found by each search.
