Rules for Subordinate Officers

Rules to be observed by the Subordinate Officers (warders).

155. The Subordinate Officers are to be recommended by the Visiting Justices and appointed by the Court of Quarter Sessions.

159. They shall not be absent from the Prison without leave from the Governor; on going out with permission or on duty, they shall leave their keys in the Governor's Office.

161. They shall count the Prisoners at locking and unlocking time and shall regularly report to the Governor the numbers present at each time.

162. They shall daily examine the state of the cells, bedding, locks, bolts &c. as soon as the cells are empty in the morning, and shall seize all prohibited articles and deliver them to the Governor forthwith.
